How to measure the size of a ring accurately-VisionGold®
It is a joy to choose and buy jewelry. You want to make a wonderful gift not only for you but also for your loved ones, friends or relatives. It is very exciting to make an online purchase of a piece of jewelry but at the same time it is a very responsible process. You definitely want a ring that looks great on your finger and fits you. The biggest problem is how to choose a ring If you buy it in an online store without knowing the exact size. Many people do not know the size of the ring they are wearing when shopping online. In this article we describe four easy ways to measure the size of your ring at home. So stay informed, get rid of stress and make your purchases online easily.
What is the size of a ring-VisionGold®
The size of a ring is equal to the circumference of your finger. If you live in Europe you just need to measure the circumference of your finger (it was the inner circle of another ring you wear on the same finger of the same hand) in millimeters and the resulting size will be the size you are looking for. Sometimes the European ring size table bypasses some sizes (for example, there are no sizes 50, 54 and 60), so it makes sense to buy the next larger size. You can also find local size charts (English, Swiss, French), but most jewelry manufacturers use either European or American standards.
US ring sizes are also measured by finger circumference, but are expressed in inches. The difference between the two sizes below is half an inch.
In the countries of the former USSR, there is a slightly different ring size chart. Instead of the circumference of the ring, they measure its inner diameter.
In the table below, you can see a comparative scale of ring sizes from different countries. It will help you to easily convert American sizes to European or other standards.
The table will be useful if you already know the size of your ring. But what if you have no idea about the size of the ring you are wearing or if you are going to give a gift to someone else? Do not worry, you are going to learn how to measure the size of your finger.
Method 1: Measure a ring diameter
If you have a ring that you wear and you want to buy another one of the same size, you can simply measure its diameter with a ruler. The simplest way to do this is to place a ring on a piece of paper, circle it inside and measure the diameter (two opposite points through the center of the circle). When you get the length of the inside diameter, multiply it by the number Π (3,14) and you will get the circumference.
When using this method, you should keep in mind that rings with a wide stem sit tighter on the finger for minutes. Therefore, their circumference should be slightly larger than that of their lean counterparts. When buying thin rings up to 3 mm wide, you do not need to increase the size.
Method 2: Thread, tape measure or strip of paper
This method is suitable for those who do not have a ring that can be measured. But if you have your own finger, you can just measure it. Keep in mind that you have to spread the same finger on the same hand in which you will wear your ring. Because all fingers are different and the dominant hand tends to be slightly larger, if you measure a different finger, a ring may not fit.
So, you need to take a thread or a strip of paper, wrap it around your finger and cut the edges or mark them with a pen. Next, measure the piece you have with a ruler.
This method has a high chance of error, as any ring, unlike a thread or strip of paper, has a certain thickness. Rings made of paper, thread and metal are completely different things. A thread can get very deep into the skin from the paper, while conversely the paper can be very loose.
We recommend using a thin, narrow piece of paper instead of a thread. When you cut it to fit your finger, glue the ends together and make a paper ring. Next, try to put it on your finger so that it does not stick to the joints (knots) between the fingers. If you think that such an improvised ring does not pass through your joints (knots) at all, you should choose a ring one size larger.
Method 3: Multiple measurement
The previous method is very simple because we have access to our own fingers. Unfortunately,As we have already noted, this method is not 100% accurate. To minimize errors, wrap a thread (or paper) around your finger 5 times. Then measure the length of the piece and divide this number by 5. This will make your measurements more accurate.
Method 4: Statistics
If you do not have a ring or finger to measure (for example, if you want to make a gift to a loved one or friend), there is only one way - rely on body size.
For example:
girls weighing up to 132 pounds. (60 kg) and up to 5'7 "(170 cm) rings between 5 ½ and 7 ½ (51 to 56).
Girls over 5'7 "(170 cm) and weighing over 132 lbs (60 kg) rocks from 8 to 9 ½ (57 to 61).
Men weighing up to 180 pounds (80 kg) usually wear rings from 8 ½ to 11 (61 to 65).
Men weighing more than 180 pounds (80 kg) usually wear rings 11 ½ (66) and up.
In general, according to statistics, the most popular ring sizes for women are from 53 to 57, with 55 being the most common size. For men, the most popular size is 62, plus / minus one size. Note that this data is statistical only for people of average weight and height. Therefore, you must be very careful when using this method, because you may be wrong about other body types.
Ring size measurement tips
The human body is dynamic. If it is cold outside, it shrinks to save as much heat as possible. If it is hot, it tries to eliminate the large amount of water. Therefore, there are conditions that will not give you reliable data when measuring a ring size. You do not have to choose a ring:
in the morning;
after high fluid intake.
during this time of month;
when it is very hot or cold outside or when there are sudden changes in temperature.
after a long flight;
if your body temperature is high.
After a night or long flight, a large amount of water remains in the human body, which causes the limbs to swell. The same goes for intensive training. Since the fingers are still swollen, a ring that fits ok after a workout in the gym will loosen up in a few hours. As a result, you will feel discomfort when wearing a ring that will constantly slide along your finger. After all, a ring that sits loose is very easy to lose.
Experts do not recommend measuring ring sizes in very hot or cold weather, as your fingers tend to swell. It is best to measure the sizes of the rings in the afternoon, when there is a comfortable temperature outside, when you are relaxed, calm and in good health.
To find out if it is comfortable for you to wear a ring, simply press your fingers into a fist several times. If you do not feel any discomfort, then the size is right. If you can not rotate the ring, or tighten your finger too tightly, you should definitely increase the size.
Typically, jewelry stores have two types of ring counters - for wide and narrow rings. When placing a ring with a specialist, you need to specify which design you intend to buy. If you buy a fairly wide ring (8mm or more) online or for another person, it is best to add ¼ "or ½" to the original finger measurement.
Is it possible to resize the ring?
It depends on the design if you can increase or decrease the size of your ring. If the stem of a ring is unusual, decorated with stones or has various inserts, it is unlikely that you will be able to change its size. The easiest to change the size of the rings are the classic models with a smooth calf at the end. However, if your ring has engravings, stones or its stem has an intricate perforated design, you will either have to pay to have it repaired or you may not find a jeweler ready to take on this difficult task. Keep in mind that it is impossible to change the size of a ring, a wedding ring covered with enamel or ceramics.
If you are worried that the ring size will not be right, then choose rings with an opening and closing calf. You can easily customize such a ring for your fingers.
